How was your experience with Gad Lavy?
Dr. Lavy has provided outstanding care during the IVF process. He has been knowledgeable, honest, and friendly every visit. He explained the process very honestly and made sure I understood what was happening each step.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Gad Lavy?
I would highly recommend Dr. Lavy and the New England Fertility practice!
Describe the protocols Gad Lavy used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Prior to the egg retrieval, I was taking Estradiol and Prometrium pills, then Follistim, Ganirelix, and Menopur injections. I produced 31 eggs, and 21 embryos resulted. Due to hyperstimulation, my 12 eligible embryos were frozen, and a transfer was done my next cycle. During this period, I took daily injections of Leuprolide, Estradiol pills, and Progesterone suppositories. A few days prior to my embryo transfer, I discontinued Leuprolide and began every other day with Progesterone injections. One week post transfer, HCG was detected from a blood test. I am awaiting two week blood test for pregnancy results.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments.
Morning appointments were always quick, even if there were others in the office waiting when I arrived. They staff was willing to work with my schedule to fit me in during hours convenient for my work schedule.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Gad Lavy.
I was provided cost a breakdown for the worst case financial scenario, but did not come near those costs due to the staff working closely with my insurance company to have many services covered. Our total out-of-pocket expenses were around $5,000.

We didn't see Dr. Lavy (personally) every visit, in fact I'm not sure we saw him even once a cycle (but maybe we did - it was awhile ago). That said, his nurses were exceptional, and I never once wished that we were seeing him instead of the nurses. I had 100% confidence in them.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
I felt that the staff (from the receptionists to the phlebotomists to the radiologists to the nurses to the doctor himself) knew our names (both mine and my wife's) and treated us warmly every time we called or visited. They were compassionate about our care, truly seemed disappointed for us when a cycle was not successful, and were gentle with the care and recommendations. They respected our opinions, fears, concerns and desires.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
She was very honest, very transparent, but also very compassionate and kind. She knew when to be very direct and when to be gentle. She got to know us well and we felt she truly cared, but she was also no-nonsense when it was called for. We trusted her completely.
How was your experience with Gad Lavy?
We didn't see Dr. Lavy (personally) every visit, in fact I'm not sure we saw him even once a cycle (but maybe we did - it was awhile ago). That said, his nurses were exceptional, and I never once wished that we were seeing him instead of the nurses. I had 100% confidence in them. When we did see him, he was warm and kind (although quiet and perhaps introverted) and had a very calm energy. I know that every time any decisions were made about a cycle, that he had been the decision-maker in a detailed meeting involving all of the individuals who were caring for us. The nurses shared the information that came out of those meetings with us, and let us know when they were scheduled to occur, so I know that he was heavily involved in our care, even when the nurses carried out the procedures.
Describe the protocols Gad Lavy used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Because we are a lesbian couple with no known fertility issues, we did not want to start with fertility drugs if we could avoid it. I went through a routine "test cycle" during which they monitored me and checked baselines, and did a HSG to test whether my Fallopian tubes were clear. It did not appear that I had any problems, so they allowed me to go through three IUI cycles without drugs. They didn't actually recommend this, and encouraged us to try Clomid, but they respected our wishes and allowed us to go through with it. Once we'd completed three cycles without success, we agreed to try Clomid. I believe I went through two IUI cycles using Clomid, and they told me that they did not feel I was responding to it, and they recommended Folistim (injectibles). I did that for a few cycles, at least one of which resulted in overstimulation, and they refused to do the IUI for fear of super multiples. In all, I had 7 complete IUI procedures over the course of 10 months (one of those off months was the overstimulation month, and I don't honestly remember why we skipped the other months, there may have been months when we simply needed an emotional break). My only positive pregnancy test was the last cycle, which was with Follistim and a trigger injection, and I became pregnant with my son, a healthy singleton. All of my IUI cycles involved two days of back-to-back IUI. That said, I believe now they may time them differently (my wife went through it and they spaced hers one day apart).
