The clinic has now merged with Boston IVF. The strengths are that it has a few offices, which makes it convenient when having to go in for daily blood draws and ultrasounds. It also has access with the Domar Center which provides nutrition information, acupuncture, and other self care options.

The nurses [at IVF New England] were amazing. They were very nice/warm/kind and thorough. They were available to me 24/7 and were always able to answer my questions...I showed up for one appointment for bloodwork and ultrasound that wasn't in the queue. They called the nurses right away and got me on the schedule.I only had to wait an extra ten minutes. Nothing really went wrong and everyone was apologetic and got me in just fine.

The nurses were amazing. They were very nice/warm/kind and thorough. They were available to me 24/7 and were always able to answer my questions. As I mentioned I had a complication after my retrieval and a nurse called me pretty much daily to check in afterwards. I have only good things to say about her nursing team.

How was your experience with Carla DiGirolamo?
From the get go, Dr. DiGirolamo was very warm, honest and straight forward. She spent a lot of time with my husband and I during our initial appointments, answering all of our questions and talking through our miscarriages and test results. For one appointment we had to bring our 3 year old son and she was very accommodating. Infertility makes anyone vulnerable and anxious and I felt comfortable with her from day 1. Unfortunately, during my retrieval (performed by another dr) a blood vessel was nicked and I had internal bleeding in my abdomen. I went to the ER and had to be admitted into the hospital. During this time Dr. D was on vacation so another doctor called to check in on me. When Dr. D returned from vacation she called me right away even though we had an appointment scheduled for a few days later. I never felt like a number and always felt like she saw me as a person.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Carla DiGirolamo?
Take advantage of your time with her. Be honest about your anxieties/questions/history etc.
Describe the protocols Carla DiGirolamo used in your cycles and their degree of success.
My husband and I have a three year old son who was conceived very effortlessly. Once we started trying again we had two consecutive miscarriages. To me this was very very confusing. Our trouble wasn't in getting pregnant, but staying pregnant. I went into this with an open mind but also didn't think we would need to do IVF. Dr. D was very straight forward with us and told us IVF was pretty much our only option to ensure a successful pregnancy. It took a little while longer than I expected to get everything started but once we did it was very structured and disciplined. I started with birth control to calm my ovaries, prevent clotting and regulate my cycle. From there we moved onto injectible hormones and I was doing three by the end of it. I know menopur was one but I forget the other two. The shots weren't as bad as I thought and I ended up doing them on my own in my abdomen. After the retrieval I went back on birth control after I got my period and then I started with the estradiol and baby aspirin (adult low dose aspirin) until day 15 when I started the progesterone cream.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Carla DiGirolamo.
We are very fortunate and only had to pay for the PGS testing and medication co-payment + dr. visit co pays.

The clinic [IVF New England in Lexington] overall is very organized and efficient. This allows them to see the number of patients they need to see each day. They do bloodwork and ultrasounds in the mornings, and call with results and instructions in the afternoon. The ultrasound/sonographer is the best of the best....On several occasions, she [Dr Kerri Luzzo] called us herself to deliver news. Each time I called the office, I was able to speak to my nurse or leave a message and receive a call back in a short time.

The clinic overall is very organized and efficient. This allows them to see the number of patients they need to see each day. They do bloodwork and ultrasounds in the mornings, and call with results and instructions in the afternoon. The ultrasound/sonographer is the best of the best. And the phlebotomists are skilled and friendly. All of the clerical staff is very friendly and helpful on the phone as well.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
On several occasions, she called us herself to deliver news. Each time I called the office, I was able to speak to my nurse or leave a message and receive a call back in a short time.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
She is very knowledgable and has been working in this field for a long time. She was always able to answer my questions herself, or she checked with the doctor and provided a response in a timely fashion. Each day when I was monitored, she thoroughly explained my results and provided clear instructions for nexts steps. I felt as though I could all with questions anytime.
How was your experience with Kerri Luzzo?
She is very intelligent and kind. She took time to evaluate our situation at our consultation, ordered the appropriate tests, and then spent time going over our results with us. She took into account our concerns and preferences and planned our protocols accordingly. I was able to schedule appointments with her that were not too far in the future. She is always pleasant and I truly look forward to all of our appointments with her!
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kerri Luzzo?
If you decide to go through treatment with her, you are making a great decision!
Describe the protocols Kerri Luzzo used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Our original diagnosis was unexplained infertility, with a suspicion of ovulation dysfunction, and no male factor issues. So we tried two IUI cycles with Clomid, the first with 50mg and the second with 100mg. Both times, I produced a good sized follicle and my husbands number were excellent. But neither led to a pregnancy. We completed an IVF cycle using an antagonist protocol. After approximately 3 weeks of birth control, we began injections with 100 units of Follistim and 75 units of Menopur to help me produce many follicles. Over time, the Follistim dosage was reduced as I was responding well, and Cetrotide (the antagonist) was added to prevent premature ovulation, prior to the scheduled retrieval. I used a Lupron trigger, because based on the number of follicles I had developed, I was at risk for Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome which can cause issues if an HCG trigger is used. The doctor retrieved 21 eggs, 17 fertilized, and we ended up with 15 embryos to freeze. We had to freeze them all due to the OHSS risk.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments.
There were often many women in the waiting room at the same time because the monitoring window was relatively short. However, the staff members were always very courteous and took the necessary time with each patient. I never felt rushed or like my tme was being wasted.

Some appointments can be quick in and out and some may require a long wait if they have a full waiting room. Doctors sometimes get real busy and get overbooked.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
I felt in the middle. While he is good, we also never are able to get him on the phone directly and only speak to the nurses during treatment. The nurses bedside manner is about 50/50
Describe your experience with your nurse.
They always got back to you same day with instructions and procedures. Though I noticed when you specifically need or want something like a scheduling thing, they would not go out of their way for you unfortunately. You have to abide by their schedule and their rules ofr retrievals and transfers and results. One time I was having major anxiety and would not stop crying at work. I wanted to find out my pregnancy results sooner on a weekend if possible and they would not do that for me because they said their rooms get too swamped when they allow blood tests on weekends. I had been a patient there for a long time and would've appreciated some additional assistance but they would not budge.
What specific things went wrong at this clinic?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
How was your experience with Samuel Pang?
He is a director and very knowledgeable. He understands your situation and advises treatment well. He is not the most personable person but as long as I get good results and I understand my treatment, that is what matters most. He is good at treating and identifying "unexplained infertility" which is what I first had before going to him. So far I have produced one child in his care and am currently in the process of working on another one!
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pang?
Do not wait too long before getting results and if after a couple of years if you are still unhappy, get a second opinion. Dr Pang was my second opinion after which I finally was able to have kids. I spent too much timegoing through senseless procedures with another doctor that would've never produced me any kids.

How was your experience with Samuel Pang?
He is all business. He is an excellent doctor but not warm and fuzzy. Very uptight and by the books. He knows his stuff but he wouldn't be who I would call if I needed something explained. I did not see him every appointment and I was ok with that. Sometimes I felt like he was a bit judgmental. He didn't perform my transfers and again I was ok with that.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pang?
If you are looking for warm and fuzzy....this is not the doctor for you. If you are looking for a good doctor with an amazing coordinator....go for it.

I don't even know. Lupron, estrogen (all forms), PIO. I had a lot of stupid things happen. Eggs didn't thaw.....lining issues.....crappy embryos......My last cycle the book was thrown at me. Lupron, estrogen (all forms), Deletrogen shots, PIO.....it finally worked.

Describe your experience with IVF New England.
Flexible and considerate with scheduling, prompt in answering messages, interested in your own outcome and not just statistics.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Their practice is more patient focused but at times I felt like they wanted to use a cookie cutter approach instead of customizing a cycle for my needs. A lot of the 'out of the box' treatment we pursued was at my research and suggestion. However, Dr Pauli was always open to listening without judgment and while some things worked and some did not he was willing to try new things.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
They answered calls or responded to messages promptly and were considerate to my work schedule at the time. They were willing to answer questions and always caring and patient.
How was your experience with Samuel Pauli?
Much of what I wrote previously, he was willing to entertain my out of the box suggestions but I found his own approach very cut and dry. Admittedly I was not always right and when we did finally successfully conceive it was on a cycle that was very close to his original treatment plan. I liked that he was open to new research and always explained risks and benefits of what to try and if statistically it could make a difference. Personality wise he's very serious and my husband always joked that my humor was lost on him. He did always listen and considered our best interest and was encouraging that even with l we had been through that he was confident we would figure out something that would work and he was right.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pauli?
Don't be afraid to ask questions and make suggestions if there's something you've read or something a friend has used that he hasn't recommended. He's very patient and informed and willing to work with his patients.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pauli used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I can't remember specific names but my first cycle was just gonal f with trigger and fresh transfer. 12 eggs, 6 mature, 5 fertilized, 1SET, 2 frozen. Miscarried at 10 weeks. My second was a natural cycle frozen transfer of 2 embryos. Miscarried a singleton pregnancy at 7 weeks. My second retrieval we extended retrieval after trigger from 36 hours to 40 hours as my first cycle only half of the eggs were mature. We also added menopur & dexamethasone. 16 eggs retrieved , 13 mature, 12 fertilized. Fresh day 5 SET followed by chemical pregnancy. Next natural cycle FET of 2 embryos, negative result. Next natural cycle FET of 1 embryo, chemical pregnancy. Third retrieval we used a cycle I found from some doctor in NYC and although Dr Pauli didn't agree he let me try it and it was disastrous. It was heavy on menopur but I can't remember the other details. It took a long time to mature any eggs and at by retrieval i had 6 follicles but only 3 eggs and 2 was mature. Both fertilized and we did a day 2 transfer, negative result. After that we took a few months off. Our last retrieval we decided to do Human growth hormone injections and PGD testing. The cycle otherwise was similar to my second with gonal f (200) menopur (75), dexamethasone and HGH. He did an extended time between trigger and retrieval again. We ended up freezing all due to progesterone rise before retrieval and subsequent OHSS. Although i had only 13 follicles they were much better quality and 12 were mature eggs and all 12 fertilized. 7 were sent for PGD testing as 5 day embryos. 6 were genetically normal. A month later we did a natural FET of 2 embryos (an elective SET was strongly recommended but we decided to transfer 2 anyway). We had twin girls from that transfer, born healthy at 38w3. 17 months later we did another natural FET of one embryo. We did find out the gender prior to FET and are expecting a boy in 5 months.

Clean facility with updated furniture, good lighting & recently renovated. State of the art embryology lab. Careful to ensure no mistakes w/ lab samples or signed paperwork (need to show photo id for all blood draws, ERs, ETs, sperm collection & details of photo id are recorded on all consents (license #, expiration date, state of license for both partners). During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Pang called me with PGS results every cycle. Also called me w/ karyotype results from miscarriage D&C. Also called to offer congratulations after successful DE cycle ultrasound
Describe your experience with your nurse.
Extremely detail oriented, organized, knowledgeable, & compassionate. Provided easy to read written treatment plans & stimulation with dates for every cycle. Spoke slowly & clearly when leaving msgs w/ results & instructions including all results (lab levels, etc) & repeated the msg twice & even added humor on most interactions. Personally scheduled herself to review all OB ultrasound results & even was present during the ultrasound scans
How was your experience with Samuel Pang?
Dr. Pang was thorough w/ explanations especially of risks of treatment & success rates of treatment/chance of multiple pregnancy w/ DE transfer of more than one embryo. He was sincere when calling to report PGS results (all embryos for all cycles were abnormal) & called as soon as he had the report (by 7 am). He made the schedule for ERs & ETs so that he could do most of the procedures himself (did all ETs & 1/4 of ERs)
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pang?
He is not an overly warm/fuzzy type however still sincere & offered genuine sympathy w/ miscarriage & abnormal PGS results. He is extremely knowledgeable of statistics, lab tests, PGS & donor egg.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pang used in your cycles and their degree of success.
After miscarriage w/ frozen embryos Dr. Pang highly recommended using PGS for all subsequent fresh autologous IVF cycles to prevent another miscarriage resulting from abnormal karyotype which was not something that we had considered. He altered treatment plans for IVF stimulation to maximize # of eggs retrieved rather than just trying the same thing over & over. He also recommended supplements to help improve my response to stimulation & maximize what ovarian reserve I had.

No doctors from IVF New England were available and I found out (while my feet were in stirrups waiting for the transfer) that I was getting a substitute doctor from Harvard Pilgrim. No one thought to tell me this could happen or reassure me. I had researched all the IVF New England doctors (they were RSC before a merger) and felt comfortable with them all and they send in a substitute at my most critical appointment with no warning or explanation. It was my fresh transfer and ended in a BFN.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
She was nice and in the end, helped me get pregnant, but there were a lot of big bumps along the way. First of all, she didn't give me enough information about possible outcomes and options before taking the Clomid Challenge. Then, she called me and gave me the results (DOR) over the phone and said I would need to use donor eggs. Nothing was explained, no follow-up appointment was made, just a blunt diagnoses with no information or support. That is not information that should be given over the phone. Then, on the day of my transfer, no doctors from IVF New England were available and I found out (while my feet were in stirrups waiting for the transfer) that I was getting a substitute doctor from Harvard Pilgrim. No one thought to tell me this could happen or reassure me. Describe your experience with your nurse.
The nurses were kind and 90% on top of things. Once they made a mistake (which I luckily caught) and almost made me stop taking Lupron too soon. Overall, I felt like I was in good hands.
How was your experience with Kristen Wright?
Again she was nice and I am confident she knew what she was doing and had the knowledge to help me get pregnant. I also appreciate that she didn't support me trying IVF with my own eggs because of my DOR. That would have been a waste of time and money. All of the support/information I got was from an online group for donor eggs called PVED. I got hardly any information from Dr. Wright. She basically prescribed the medications for IVF and oversaw my cycle. My case was not complicated, no other diagnosis beyond DOR and I had already had a child naturally with my own eggs. Dr. Wright did not do either of my transfers and I did not communicate with her much during my cycles. I mostly talked to my nurse.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kristen Wright?
Ask lots of questions. Ask who will be doing your transfers and if they use substitute doctors from other practices. She was never rude or mean, but definitely not very emotional. She will get the job done, but don't expect a big hug or anything.

The nurses [at IVF New England] are wonderful. They are prompt with responding to your voice messages. I know some people don't like that you have to leave a voice mail and your clinic calls you back, but I prefer it sometimes. My only tiny gripe is calling after hours and dealing with the after hours team. They don't really know your back story so aren't really helpful.

Describe your experience with IVF New England.
One weakness is that the satellite offices aren't as accessible as I'd like for monitoring appointments. It would be great if they opened the same time as the main clinic (It would be even greater if the main clinic opened about 30min earlier too) and if they were open on the weekends. The main clinic is over an hour away from me and the satellite is about a 20min drive so that's a bit of an irritation. And one major gripe is that the clinic recently closed and moved locations. We weren't given much notice. I'm not the biggest fan of the new locations and I will miss the old clinic. Change is inevitable I guess, I just would have liked more notice and a bit more information on how we would be affected. But I love my clinic. Everyone is so kind and they're very well organised. They're extremely responsive and I never felt like a number there.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr Pauli calls us personally after hours to give results of tests. He once called while he was on vacation.

How was your experience with Samuel Pauli?
Dr Pauli is great! He's soft spoken and kind of serious but extremely kind. He was happy to try new things. He called us after hours to give results to tests and spoke to us at length about all upcoming procedures. I trust him implicitly.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pauli?
Don't be nervous to ask any question no matter what. He won't speak condescendingly and explains all angles of everything.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pauli used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We did an antagonist protocol with 150iu of Menopur and 300iu of Gonal-f. We switched to a Lupron trigger from an HCG trigger because I was at risk of OHSS. We had done this protocol before but it was my best cycle so we tried it again.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments.
Relatively efficient. A bit of a wait for blood work but nothing too crazy. The ultrasound techs are lovely.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Samuel Pauli.
Everything is covered under my insurance. PGD testing is covered as a reimbursement.

The front desk [at IVF New England] needs some work! They are often dismissive. The ladies who take blood are great! You see them more than anyone else. It's rare to have to wait. The women who prefer the internal ultrasounds are great too and give as much information as they are able to. [The nurses] were patient, excellent about calling back and extremely helpful with getting us sample meds when they realized we were paying out of pocket.

How was your experience with Samuel Pauli?
Dr Pauli was incredibly sweet and helpful. He always broke down our plans in the most simple way possible to avoid unnecessary stress for us. He answered all questions to the best of his ability and would often give us a few different options to make sure we were making the right choices for us. He was in touch regarding each procedure and what to expect next.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pauli?
He's amazing. He is working for YOU and honestly wants to help you achieve what you want. He's patient, easy to talk to and genuinely interested in your personal story.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pauli used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We tried very painful (for me) iui's and when we started to run out of donor sperm doctor Pauli suggested IVF. My wife carried our first child using the donor and we really wanted them to be biological siblings. I started ivf - birth control for a couple weeks, then injections (up to three a day) and then egg retrieval. He retrieved 12 eggs, 9 were excellent and we used 4 total trying. Our first ivf ended in a negative test, the next we used two eggs and got a positive, but had a miscarriage at 7.5 weeks and now I am 8 months pregnant with the fourth egg -- our son.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Samuel Pauli.
I can't even talk about it. We paid so much because we are military and they don't cover fertility treatments. It's still a sore subject

Describe your experience with IVF New England.
The clinic overall was good. Whenever I called, I got the answers I needed. The billing took a while at times (more than a month), but not a deal breaker. The only challenge was during my last cycle, they were in the process of moving facilities and my doctor was moving to another location. When my husband went to drop off his sample, he ended up having to wait quite a long time just to drop it off (30+ min). I had to go to Waltham instead of Lexington for my last appointment.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
She was straight-forward with our situation and treatment options. She said that while many doctors would not try IUI with us, she wanted to make sure we tried all options before having to make a more significant decision (like using donor eggs). I appreciated her candid nature and honesty.

How was your experience with Carla DiGirolamo?
Dr. DiGirolamo was straight-forward and honest about our situation and options. She was not overly "warm and fuzzy" - but that was fine with me. She was willing to try a course of treatment with us that the first doctor we saw did not offer. She gave us hope.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Carla DiGirolamo?
She is very patient! She answered all of our questions with patience and kindness. She was honest with us, and I appreciated this so much.
Describe the protocols Carla DiGirolamo used in your cycles and their degree of success.
At first, my FSH was very high, and my cycles were irregular. Dr. DiGirolamo wanted to put me on birth control to regulate my cycles. I was against that, since I had been on for 18 years. Instead, she put me on an estradiol and prometrium protocol. After 5 months of that, we started IUI cycles. We used injectible meds (Menopur), Ovidrel trigger shot, and Crinone gel and estrogen patches post-IUI. The dosage of Menopur started at a lower dosage to see how I responded to it, and increased as each cycle progressed. After the first two IUIs, she increased my medication dosage for the third and fourth cycles. The fourth cycle finally worked, and we are expecting a little girl later this year.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Carla DiGirolamo.
I was very fortunate to have my procedures covered by my employer offered insurance policy. I only had to pay a co-pay to meet with the doctor, and for each IUI procedure. I also had prescription med coverage, so I paid the top tier co-pay for specialty meds.

I really can't speak to this too much. We didn't go anywhere else so I have no basis for comparison. Describe your experience with your nurse.
They seemed a bit disorganized to me. The communication was also not great. Friends that used other clinics talked about how they could email questions and also how close they felt to their nurse because they talked to them so much. There were some times that they forgot to call when they were supposed to and so forth.

How was your experience with Samuel Pang?
He was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. The first IVF someone else performed the procedure but he did the second one. It worked on the first try both times. I have nothing else to say but you are requiring me to get to 200 characters which seems sort of ridiculous.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pang?
His manner can be rather dry but he is a good doctor and our procedures were successful. Also, he pushed the egg bank they worked with quite a bit which I guess is understandable but I might remind someone that there are others and they can use any one that they want.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pang used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I don't remember specifically. I believe that the first time I took Lupron, Estrace, and Progesterone. The second time I only took Estrace and Progesterone.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Samuel Pang.
I really don't remember exactly. I think the first time was around $15,000 and the second time was around $4000.

Small outpost of IVF New England and Boston IVF merger. I usually went to Lexington office (IVF NE) but could also go to Waltham office (Boston IVF) for blood work and ultrasounds. I VASTLY PREFERRED the staff at the Waltham office. Ultrasound techs were friendly and communicative, phlebotimists were skilled and fast...I'd come in for morning blood work and ultrasound, and nursing staff would call with results by 2 pm. Very clear communication, gave precise directions. The one thing that didn't happen is that we did not have an appointment to specifically walk me through each of the medications (but I figured it out).

How was your experience with Samuel Pauli?
Very detailed and thorough. Made numbered lists. Talked through all aspects of the situation with precision and compassion. Calming bedside manner -- not overly empathic, so seemed trustworthy.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pauli?
If you like someone who makes lists and is detailed, he is your doctor. I didn't want someone who would be overly emotional -- I wanted the news straight, and that's what I got.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pauli used in your cycles and their degree of success.
My insurance required 2 IUIs before IVF. For IUI, used Letrozole and an Ovidrel trigger. Now in middle of IVF. Using Menopur and Gonal-F for daily injections. HCG and Lupron trigger. Cabrigolide to prevent OHSS, will use progesterone cream and estrogen patches to support transfer.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Samuel Pauli.
I have excellent insurance with a $4000 deductible. after my deductible was satisfied, everything was free. Office visits were $300-$500, blood work and ultrasounds were usually around $150. Medications were thousands.

During my entire treatment, we only saw/spoke with Dr. Carla 3 times during the entire process. I raised concerns about the low # of follicles during the injection to the nurse [at IVF New England] since we did not have any interaction with the doctor directly; however, my med dosage was not adjusted. Prior to the treatment, there was no issue (on paper or blood result) about my egg quality as all along I was told it was a male infertility factor. I was surprised that I only had 5 eggs retrieved. I am currently pregnant and looking forward to the baby arrival. When I was confirmed that I was pregnant (through day 14 bloodwork and week 7 ultrasound), there was no personal phone call from the doctor to congratulate me.

The clinic is very efficient. You know exactly where to go (for blood work and ultrasound). They get you in and out quickly and I hardly ever had to wait past my appointment time. The hours are very flexible. They open early in the morning and weekends which made it convenient for me since I did not need to miss any work. I would suggest them to change the process for people who brings the sperm. I remember on the day I had to bring my husband's sperm to the clinic immediately after he had surgery, there were 2 other people ahead of me in line and it took a long time for the receptionist to address their questions. Before the surgery, I specifically asked where I should bring the sperm. The nurse told me that I needed to bring the sperm to the receptionist and she would take care of it. They should have told me to bring it to the second floor where the lab is located so that I did not have to wait in line for another 15 minutes to speak with the receptionist. I was so nervous since I was told sperm would survive with 1 hour after retrieval and it took 20 minutes drive to the clinic. Even at the lab, I still had to wait for the lab technician to come out and meet me. They should improve this process.

There are total of 3 nurses on the nurse team that I normally worked with. They are very friendly and do get back to me in a reasonable time whenever i left a message. They ordered the medicine timely and provided the instruction including the calendar. I did not know how to inject myself but the nurse told me to youtube as the links that they provided did not work.

How was your experience with Carla DiGirolamo?
When we met with Dr. Carla the first time, she was very warm and explained things to us in details and made us comfortable. We were actually shopping for fertility doctor at the time and decided to go with Dr. DiGirolamo since she was able to start the process right away (and we got the appointment with her within 3 days meanwhile the original RE doctor that my OB doctor recommended did not have any appointment for 2 months). However, we had no interaction with Dr. DiGirolamo throughout the entire process after we decided to go with her and everything was through the nurses. Dr. DiGirolamo happened to be the scheduled doctor on the day of my egg retrieval (IVF New England does rotation). She was in the waiting area where all patients were while she awaited for her first retrieval to start but did not come by to say hi or acknowledge that I was her patient (I was the 3rd or 4th one).
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Carla DiGirolamo?
Dr. DiGirolamo gets the job done. At the end, I did get pregnant and have a healthy baby. Don't expect Dr. DiGirolamo to connect with you at the personal level or spend the time to listen to your needs/concerns. Dr. DiGirolamo does have a great nurse team and they work very efficiently.
Describe the protocols Carla DiGirolamo used in your cycles and their degree of success.
It was explained to me that because it was male infertility factor, I must go through IVF process with the egg retrieval and embryo implementation. I was on birth control pill (i did not understand why I was on the bcp when my period has always been very regular but did not question since I thought everyone needed to be on it as part of the process. I later asked my friend who also went through IVF treatment and she said her wasn't on the bcp), I was then on menopur and follistim on the first day of my period. On day 5 was my first ultrasound and learned that I had 2 follicles that were larger than 10mm. There was no increase in dosage through the entire process even though I had expressed my concern as the # of follicles remained low for the next few ultrasound. I was told that as long as I have at least 3 follicles that were larger than 10mm, my retrieval would not be cancelled. But I was hoping to have more eggs so that I could save some for the second baby. I am not sure if increasing would have helped with getting more follicles but it would have been nice to the doctor adjusted the treatment.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Carla DiGirolamo.
My insurance covers all the costs. All I had to pay was the co-payment for the appointments and medicine. However, I had to pay genetic testing as well as my husband's sperm storage and analysis before receiving the procedures. IVF New England would not submit claims to my insurance for these. I submitted the claims to my insurance in early 2016. Because the contract my insurance has with IVF New England, they paid IVF New England as well. Due to some kind of policies, neither party could refund me the money directly and ask other to pay me back for the money I paid to IVF New England. It's now January 2017, I still do not have the money.

My first doctor (Dr. G) was a bit hard to reach during my first IVF cycle. Since I was new to this process, I had more questions. I did not have the same trust level with Dr. G. as I did with Dr. Pauli. At times, I felt I was more a number to Dr. G. and when things failed, there were no new information that was gleamed and used for the next cycle...Strength: Very well organized, the doctors and nurses are specialized in their areas and I'm very confident in their abilities. They do respect your privacy, which is extremely important in this field. Weakness: With my first doctor (Dr. G.) that I worked with, it was hard to reach her directly. Had to go through the nurses and waited days before she contacted me back. However, this may be doctor specific.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
The fourth IVF cycle was going to be our last attempt for my husband and me for financial, emotional, and physical reasons. Our first Fertility doctor had told us that she (the doctor) had tried all the protocols that she would on me and she would just go back to one of the previous protocols for our fourth IVF cycle. At that point we felt our doctor had given up on us and it was just a shot in the dark, if the next IVF cycle would work. At that point, my husband and I decided we needed a break from all of the Fertility treatments and then switched to a new Fertility doctor, Dr. Samuel Pauli. Dr. Samuel Pauli helped us with our fertility treatment. He listened to what research and knowledge I gained from my failed IVF cycles and tailored the treatment for us. The fourth and last IVF cycle (the first IVF cycle with Dr. Pauli) was a Success! This in itself speaks to how wonderful Dr. Pauli is at his profession. We felt he doesn’t see us as just another one of his patients. He truly cared about us.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
Dr. Pauli's nurse are very caring and showed compassion. They are a very organized and supportive team. They answered my questions as best as they can and understood this was not an easy process to go through.

How was your experience with Samuel Pauli?
Dr. Pauli has great bedside manners. He truly listens and cares about the patients that he is trying to help. If it's a viable solution, he will help you try it. In my case I was diagnosed with "Unexplained Infertility" and had 3 failed IVF cycles before seeking help from Dr. Pauli. Knowing what I know now, I would definitely have gone to him first!
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pauli?

Describe the protocols Samuel Pauli used in your cycles and their degree of success.
The protocol involved following the natural ovulation cycle and used heavy hormone stimulation (Gonal F and Ganirelix) to increase the most amount of eggs that can be retrieved during ovulation that was triggered with the trigger shot. Then I believe with only 6 eggs retrieved, ICSI was performed.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Samuel Pauli.
The IVF cycles were around $20K per round.

Describe your experience with IVF New England.
The clinic is coviently located in Lexington to my work near by. The day of my fresh transfer my husband had a difficult day time with his contribution. Not only did the rooms not have any door looks, and people kept knocking on the door. The Waltham IVF location was the only complaint we have.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?

How was your experience with Samuel Pauli?
Dr. Pauli has great bedside manor, even while delivering bad news he makes you feel like he cares. I also like that he doesn’t give you false hope and tells it to you straight. Dr. Pauli has made me feel like I have say. When a cycle didn’t work he listens to my concerns and discusses the what to do next. I am a scientist so I am always reading medical journal articles, and Dr. Pauli respects that is willing to try things if it makes sense for a positive outcome.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pauli?
Don’t be afraid to ask any and everything you can think of.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pauli used in your cycles and their degree of success.
My first IUI we tried clomid, but it hampered growth of my uterine lining. So I ended up with a negative test. For the next two cycle of iui we just used gonal-f at 375 units twice daily, still we got a negative. I never had more than 4 follicles. For the first IVF we used BC, lupron and final-f. After the BC my body had a difficult time restarting resulting in 22 days of injections. However there were 3 follicles and two were retrieved. Both follicles were fertilized by icsi and were day 3 transfer 8A embryos my lining thickened to 7mm. Unfortunately we saw a negative. When meeting with the Dr we discussed what might have hampered things, my concern was that the BC was too suppressive so we tried just estrogen and lupron. . After 14 days of injections my lining had thickened only and I had only one follicle and It didn’t want to grow. So to my dismay the cycle was canceled. The third cycle we went back to BC with clomid, gonal-f and a antagomits. Centrolide the antagonist hurt and bruised me for weeks. Once again my lining did not grow past 4mm, I did have 2 nice follicles. Due to the low # of follicles the IVF cycle was converted to iui. Nothing stuck. Dr. Pauli told me as long as I produce eggs we will try, but I need to start thinking about using a donor egg. That is tough to hear but it is realistic. My current cycle is just beginning with BC, lupron and 375 BID. I hope we get a positive soon.

I liked the regular sonographers Annie and Deb. They told me what they were seeing and didn’t leave me wondering how many follicles I have or how big they were. The lab [at IVF New England] was usually very quick. I didn’t like the way the waiting room was. Various people were waiting and sometimes I felt sensitive to what others were there for...They were always pleasant to talk to. They were organized and answered any questions I had patiently. Their return calls were always prompt.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr Pauli explained why it is so hard for us to conceive and was very realistic but in a nice way. He agreed to do the 7th IVF just because I wanted to. At the same time, he blurted out clinic’s success rate was gonna go down with my 7th try. I know he said it jokingly. Except this statement, he treated us nicely.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
They were always pleasant to talk to. They were organized and answered any questions I had patiently. Their return calls were always prompt.
How was your experience with Samuel Pauli?
Dr Pauli is a very science based doctor. He wanted to stick to what has been scientifically researched in terms of supplements and remedies. He listened me for my suggestions and agreed to do a procedure the way I wanted.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pauli?
He is very nice. But don’t ask him about supplements and other things you would do to increase your fertility.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pauli used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Because I had already had four IVF cycles before I saw him, dr Pauli reviewed what worked well and didn’t work well for me from the previous cycles. He did both antagonist and birth control for prep. Used Gonal-f (follistim) as FSH and menopur and lupron. I used clamid and femera as well. When I used femera and small dose of follistim, I had day 5 transfer for the first time although it ended in negative pregnancy test.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Samuel Pauli.
It was about $10,000 for a complete cycle plus testing and lab. My insurance covered almost all of the full cycle.

[IVF New England - Lex] Front desk staff is very friendly and gets to know you over your visits. The phlebotemists and Ultrasound technicians couldn't be nicer. They are all friendly and welcoming - and this is a big plus because these are the people you see throughout your cycle face to face - not the nurse and not the doctor. I feel comfortable there - more than at any other doctor's office. The same can be said about the staff for egg retrieval - very nice/friendly/compassionate with you - especially if you are nervous for each egg retrieval like I am.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
She seemed genuine in giving us advice and telling us the process
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
Negative: Some of the nurses would be short with you if you asked questions or when explaining your instructions - probably because they repeat themselves a number of times a day - but depending on who called you, it could be annoying. Also, they were hard to get a hold of. If I called, I never had anyone answer live...I always had to leave a voicemail and wait for a call back. Not everything is explained in detail. I recently did a cycle where it was a freeze all due to genetic testing. They kept telling me to call when I got my period after the retrieval - but didn't indicate why. I didn't ask (so that's on me) but assumed they just needed to track it. When I got my period and called, they said I would need to go on the pill - and the reason for that was because I was still waiting for financial approval of the frozen cycle and they need to control my period. Not a big deal, but I thought it was weird that this was not explained to me previously. I think overall it boils down to - they same the same thing, more or less - to probably 20 or more patients a day - so sometimes you can tell they want to just spit out the instructions and be done. Positive: while some of the nurses were bitchy, some were really nice, patient and tried to help. There was one time when my medication order got messed up with my insurance and the nurse worked with for a few hours trying to fix it. While I said all that 'negative' stuff, 8 times out of 10 I got a really nice nurse.
How was your experience with Carla DiGirolamo?
Dr DiGirolamo met with us a number of times at the start of each cycle to talk through the process and listen to our concerns. There were times when it was hard to get a 'straight answer', especially after failed cycles - everything seem to be generalized as egg quality or not 'viable' - but I also understand that she can't explain exactly why the cycle failed. After visits with the doctor we would meet with the nurse to go over the instructions for the start of the cycle. Once we started, we didn't see the doctor again; just talked to the nurse with instructions after U/S and bloodwork
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Carla DiGirolamo?
I would give this for any doctor: the process is overwhelming and even if you think you asked everything and understood anything when walking out the door, make sure to leave the door open for follow up questions or to repeat information. Ask the doctor what is the best way to contact them or their nurses for these types of questions
Describe the protocols Carla DiGirolamo used in your cycles and their degree of success.
strong protocol with stimulation medication to help with low reserve
Describe the costs associated with your care under Carla DiGirolamo.
I'm unsure as my insurance covered about 90%. I think each cycle - with a fresh transfer cost around $9000

Describe your experience with IVF New England.
The clinic is organized and the staff are personable considering how busy it is.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Pauli was very compassionate as well as informed and worked with the data he had within his area and philosophy of expertise from the Western model. He explained things clearly and also was able to listen and I felt heard. He engaged and participated in my treatment decisions from day 1. It was complicated with fibroids and he used trusted second opinions and referred me to Tamie as well.
Describe your experience with your nurse.

She met with us to let us know about not finding a heart beat and she was brutal and awful. I never saw her after that. All of the regular nurses are really great. No complaints whatsoever.
How was your experience with Samuel Pauli?
I felt like he did a great job. He follows the western medical model and as a patient I needed to remember that he was going from that philosophy which isn't the whole picture. I have been considering returning for another cycle though. The fact that he did most of my surgeries helped me trust him with understanding my specific fertility treatment needs as complications arose.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pauli?
1. The body needs time to recover and heal in between surgeries. Sometimes focusing on the body clock medical model although has evidence behind it, may not be paying attention to the need for recovery time. 2. Get to know a few more other approaches that are also evidence based for informed referral practices because ivf treatment really requires an interdisciplinary approach and model. Specifically - for emotional and psychological support: Music therapy and other creative arts therapies/ expressive therapies. Dietician should definitely be a part of ivf treatment as well as acupuncture for sure! If I had not had these areas covered in my treatment with Tamie, I would have definitely been prescribed more medical model medicine, or surgeries and not found the root of the issues I was facing.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pauli used in your cycles and their degree of success.
2 x fibroid removal surgeries, 3 hours long each. 1 or 2 months between each. 1 cycle, gonotropin? and the other injections: one for egg quality and one to control the cycle. egg retrieval with 2 eggs, successful positive test unsuccessful pregnancy 2 natural egg transfers, 1 at a time. a few months between each other with progesterone.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Samuel Pauli.

Describe your experience with IVF New England.
This is a high volume clinic. They have early morning availability for lab tests, which is really helpful when you are working full time. The only thing I felt was lacking was the psychological support. That was just one phone call from a nurse while I was at work, and she left a message, but I could not reach anyone after work hours. I could have used an evening call.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
I was treated with respect at this high volume clinic. It was reassuring to know that all of the procedures were mundane for them because they do them so often. Scheduling was amazing, I could come in early in the morning, get my blood tests and scans done right away and be on my way. Like a well-oiled machine. It was exactly the balance I wanted.

How was your experience with Samuel Pauli?
Dr. Pauli is fantastic. We had male factor infertility. He did not overpromise results. He explained all our options in detail and was not overly rosy about it. When he did procedures like the saline ultrasound and embryo transfer, it didn't hurt at all, unlike the previous doctor I had who did my HSG. It's been almost three years since I've seen him, so I may have glossed over some negative things, since we have a baby now, but we plan to go back to him when we want to grow our family again.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pauli?
Ask him all your questions, including asking what he thinks you should do. He has your best interest in mind - balancing the impact on your body with the likelihood of successful live birth.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pauli used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We had a pretty standard treatment of IVF with ICSI. I ovulate normally so it was straightforward. It's been 3.5 years so I forget a lot of it. I was on lupron for a while, then something else was added that had to be refrigerated. I was being monitored closely for overstimulation because that happened when my former OBGYN in Indiana prescribed me clomid. I had no problems with Dr. Pauli's treatment, and it worked in one round to bring us our daughter, probably a factor of my young age and it being a sperm issue.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Samuel Pauli.
I had a high deductible plan, so once I paid my deductible that was it. When I saw the retail prices of treatments and visits that my insurer paid they weren't as high as I thought they would be.

He made me feel re-assured that I would be a mom. He didn’t bs me or my husband and got right to the point and we appreciated the honesty. It’s a tough business and to have someone know how to make things happen and will do all it takes was a game changer. He is amazing.

How was your experience with Samuel Pang?
Dr. Pang was no nonsense and after so many failed attempts and fluff from our previous doctor we felt we were finally with a doctor that would take the time to figure out the real reason we couldn’t get pregnant. He is no nonsense and very serious about his job and he does it good and will do whatever it takes to have a happy outcome. And even reached out to me to discuss any questions I had during the the process.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pang?
Stay open-minded and just know this guy is legit and knows what he is doing. Trust him.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pang used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Dr Pang had given my husband and I a chromosome test where is was found I had an extra chromosome that was maybe to blame for myany failed ivf attempts at my last clinic. They didn’t test me there but pushed frozen cycle after cycle that always ended in miscarrriage. Because of this chromosome being there he was more confident in using donor eggs then my own to have a healthy baby. I trusted him and he provided an excellent medical protocol for my egg donor. Everything was seamless, and easy. Which for an egg donor having to go through ivf for no personal benefit you want to be sure they are treated better than most.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Samuel Pang.
Because we used donor eggs and had no insurance coverage we paid out of pocket $16,000. Give or take. This included legal fees, egg donor cycle, transfer, meds, and continuing to pay storage fees.

They [IVF New England] are a large clinic, so your doctor will not likely be the person to do the procedure. This didn't both me given the expertise of the doctors and the need for timeliness, which was always achieved. The biggest concern I would have as a patient would be management of hormone treatment, which was considerably better when working directly with nurses, rather than my first experience, when an outside doctor, Dr. Gary Gross, was coordinating with RSC (now IVF Lexington). This was a terrible experience and I would not recommend to work with an outside provider unless you have an exceptional relationship- the center itself is much more coordinated when all points of care come from them.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
I barely interacted with Dr. Gladstein, aside from one introductory appointment, and one after a miscarriage to decide next steps. Most of my interactions with with the nurses.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
They were willing and able to take calls and communicate frequently. They gave honest information, but didn't sugar coat. I had one failed pregnancy, and one fragile pregnancy, and especially in the latter, it was challenging, but they were there for me, even at odd hours. I had medicine delivered in a snow storm and an appointment at 6 am on a Saturday for an ultrasound after a bleed.
What specific things went wrong at this clinic?
  • Failed to convey critical information
How was your experience with Isaac Glatstein?
I have no problem with Dr. Glatstein, just no real relationship. I got the sense he was very good at what he did. He provided information, evaluated my circumstances, and made reasonable recommendations during an emotional time.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Isaac Glatstein?
He's fine, but know that, at least in my case, the nurses matter more.
Describe the protocols Isaac Glatstein used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I did injections to stimulate hormones for egg retrieval and then after pregnancy to continue hormone levels to be stable. I also used the vaginal cream after becoming pregnant to sustain estrogen levels (an earlier doctor did not do this). We did needle insemination of sperm into our embryos.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Isaac Glatstein.
Our health insurance covered our entire IVF process. It was exceptional, and this policy is no longer offered by husband's employer.

Location [of IVF New England] worked well for me. Was really lucky to have a first rate option in my same town, as I noticed that others traveled good distances to come there. I can only recall strengths and have no weaknesses to report. I will say that with the distance of time, my recollection of the experience has faded....I think her name was Nicole, but I'm not 100% sure I'm remembering that right. She was fantastic, as were all others filling in when she wasn't available. When I was struggling with things she was emotional on the phone with me and it was clear that she was very invested in my care. I am so thankful for the nurses as well as Dr. Pauli.

Describe your experience with IVF New England.
Location worked well for me. Was really lucky to have a first rate option in my same town, as I noticed that others traveled good distances to come there. I can only recall strengths and have no weaknesses to report. I will say that with the distance of time, my recollection of the experience has faded.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
I was very comfortable with Dr. Pauli. He was honest, caring and direct. I also felt like since I was in his care for a good amount of time we developed a comfort level and relationship that helped the relationship feel very human.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
I think her name was Nicole, but I'm not 100% sure I'm remembering that right. She was fantastic, as were all others filling in when she wasn't available. When I was struggling with things she was emotional on the phone with me and it was clear that she was very invested in my care. I am so thankful for the nurses as well as Dr. Pauli.
How was your experience with Samuel Pauli?
Professional, caring, warm, honest, direct, informative. Broke things down and spoke in a way we could understand. He also made phone calls after every cycle good or bad to touch base. He seemed genuinely happy on the news of my successful pregnancy thanks to his help. Was very invested in my care. We will forever be thankful for his service to our family. Not a days goes by when I don't think about the miracle of my twins and the many ways that they complete our family w 3 kids.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pauli?
I have chosen not to talk about my treatment with others, which makes that unlikely. With that said, I think I would say to any fertility patients to prepare for an emotional journey that may not be successful. I feel very lucky that my treatment worked because the stats/numbers were not on my side.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pauli used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I really don't remember specifics. I will say that I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks with one cycle and had success with the very next cycle. The first 2 cycles resulted in adjustments that led to success with the 3rd and 4th cycles of IVF.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Samuel Pauli.
There were plenty of costs due to some insurance changes, but we changed our insurance so that the more expensive IVF procedures were covered.

The clinic [IVF New England] works with your insurance company, they are communicative and professional. I always felt welcome and well cared for no matter why I was in the office. I loved the clinic staff!... It always took them [the nurses] what seemed like ages to call with the results of that morning's testing. Though obviously they are at the mercy of the lab, I felt like I could have been notified sooner of results. Other than that, they were very supportive and helpful.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
The doctor himself called me during the cycle that I had my miscarriage. Rather than have a nurse report the numbers and results to me, he phoned me himself. That seemed incredible to me.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.

How was your experience with Isaac Glatstein?
He is a very knowledgeable doctor. He knows when a treatment modality is not working and moves on quickly, lessening the time it takes to get pregnant. After 3 cycles on Clomid not working, he immediately moved to injectable medication with IUIs rather than continuing along the same path. After our successful IVF, he met with us the next year to really go over what had happened during that cycle and to plan for future cycles, should we need them.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Isaac Glatstein?
Ask questions! He will always answer them to the best of his ability.
Describe the protocols Isaac Glatstein used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I did 3 low dose Clomid cycles, which were monitored, but no IUIs. I then did a Follistim with IUI cycle which resulted in a chemical pregnancy. The cycle after that he did a natural cycle with IUI, which did not result in pregnancy. After that we did 3 more Follistim with IUI cycles. We were only going to do 2 and then proceed to IVF, but it was taking my insurance too long to approve us for IVF, so he decided to do another IUI while we waited. Our one IVF cycle worked and we had twins. During that cycle he gave me very low doses of hormones, because during my first IUI cycle I hyperstimulated. So they only retrieved 8 eggs. Most of them fertilized but were abnormal. We were left with 2 normally growing embryos, and we decided to transfer both of them, as one was not such a great quality and probably would not have made it to freeze. Both embryos took, and we had twins!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Isaac Glatstein.
Most of it was taken care of by my insurance company as well as a small grant given by a community agency. I believe I paid about $500 for my IVF cycle. I don't remember how much I paid for my medications, but it was not much.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
He genuinely cared about our situation, and he took plenty of time to go over every detail I asked for.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
The nurses were great. They were going through some staffing changes so I was never sure who to ask for specifically, but luckily I know one of the nurses personally (mom of a friend) and even though she wasn’t on my team she stepped in and helped me out tremendously whenever I needed to speak with someone directly.
How was your experience with Samuel Pauli?
He was incredibly knowledgeable. He took the time to go over our five previous cycles in great detail, including dosing and why he thought our outcomes were what they were. He was quick to adjust my doses when my terrible ovaries were not responding well to stims, and was very candid about the fact that my retrieval might not be successful due to my ovaries being displaced by adhesions from endometriosis. The best was the voicemail I got from him wishing me a happy and healthy pregnancy about a week after I was released from the clinic, that and the fact that he personally called me to talk about my fertilization report. And let’s not forget that it took my last doctor eight embryos over five transfers to get me a live birth, and it took Dr Pauli just two eSETs to give me the gift of my second daughter, who is due in less than two weeks.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pauli?
Take the time to ask questions, because he will answer absolutely every single one of them candidly.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pauli used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We did an antagonist protocol with very high doses of stims for over a week, I think I stimmed for 10 or 11 days? HCG trigger, retrieval went well, fresh eSET resulted in a chemical but I’ve never had luck with fresh transfers. Second transfer was a successful frozen eSET, used PIO for the first time, old doc had me always using Crinone. Also used baby aspirin for the first time.

Brenda is amazing as a nurse coordinator and I truly felt that she cared for us to have a positive experience and outcome. She always treated me like a friend more than a patient which is hard to come by. The other nurses were kind, and willing to answers my questions, and the ultrasound techs were always very kind as well.

How was your experience with Kristen Wright?
Dr. Wright has always been clear and direct with us, but is also careful to speak to us in a compassionate manner. She is very knowledgeable, consistently updating us on recent studies that relate to us and has always been very good at listening to our concerns and answered all our questions.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kristen Wright?
Be prepared with questions, Dr. wright will give you an honest opinion, so it’s important to know what questions to ask to help you understand where she is coming from. Also be aware that she will not be doing many of your procedures as they are partnered with a bigger clinic that has other doctors for IVF egg retrieval’s, transfers iui’s etc.
Describe the protocols Kristen Wright used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We tried 2 rounds of oral pills, 1 month of clomid with timed intercourse, and 1 month of a higher dose of letrozoyle with timed intercourse. We got pregnant with letrozoyle, but miscarried shortly after. This was our 9th miscarriage so we quickly moved on to IVF. In our IVF cycles we used birth control for two weeks in my first cycle then added follistim 150units and menopur 150units for the first 5 days of my first cycle and then doubled each dose days 6-12 while also using cetrotide. Due to high progesterone we opted for a freeze all cycle. We had 15 eggs, 12 fertilized and 1 BB embryo made it to freeze. Our second IVF cycle we used menopur 150 and follistim 300 from day 1 of the cycle. We continued for 8 days before adding cetrotide in for days 8-10. We retrieved 13 eggs, 8 fertilized and transferred 2 day 5 morulas. We received a positive pregnancy test with doubling hcg and but are currently only 5 weeks along.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kristen Wright.
Fortunately most of our treatment was forever by insurance, but I believe each IVF cycle with icsi was about $9,000

The clinic [IVF NE] has multiple monitoring locations, which is convenient for someone like me who lives close to one location and works close to another. You can go to different sites depending on what works for you. The main procedures are completed at one location. They give you a scheduled time for blood work and ultrasounds, which streamlines the process really well.

You can go to different sites depending on what works for you. The main procedures are completed at one location. They give you a scheduled time for blood work and ultrasounds, which streamlines the process really well. Dr. Wright never did any of my procedures, which I was disappointed about, but I did feel comfortable with the other doctor's in the practice.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
I felt like a human under the treatment of Dr. Wright. I felt that she and the nurses were caring and compassionate. However, the clinic is large and at times I felt like a number - not due to the way any staff member treated me, but because I knew there were so many patients under the care of the clinic's doctors.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
My main nurse was clear in her directions and knowledgeable about medications. She called to explain next steps and answered all my questions efficiently.
How was your experience with Kristen Wright?
Dr. Wright takes the time to explain every aspect of treatment clearly. I came to her with many questions and she answered all of them fully and honestly. Dr. Wright presented the facts of my case and provided me with options after discussing the benefits and disadvantages of each. She is very knowledgeable and trustworthy.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kristen Wright?
Attend appointments with a list of questions so that you can maximize your time with the doctor and get all the information you need to proceed with treatment.
Describe the protocols Kristen Wright used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Dr. Wright prescribed an antagonist cycle with no birth control. This was my fourth IVF cycle, but first with her. Five eggs were retrieved and two embryos were transferred, but resulted in a negative pregnancy test. Due to diminished ovarian reserve and poor egg quality, I am going to undergo an donor egg cycle with Dr. Wright soon.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kristen Wright.
When undergoing an IVF cycle, I had majority of costs covered by insurance. With my upcoming donor egg cycle, I will pay a fee to the clinic, a fee to the outside agency, donor fee, and legal fees.

Describe your experience with IVF New England.
As I have not started the IVF process yet, and only completed all pre-IVF testing I can't speak to the clinic's IVF treatment, but I can speak with regarding onboarding new patients and pre-IVF testing. The clinic does a great job with explaining the process to new patients and has wide availability to get you into appointments quickly. I did feel the testing process takes a long time, and perhaps it could be just my siltation which each test seemed to bring up another issue that needed to be addressed before moving forward. Final treatment plans appoints can book a ways out so in that instance it is difficult to get in sooner, but overall I have liked my experience with the clinic.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Wright has always taken the time to explain each one of our tests to us. As we are in the beginning stages of IVF, this is all very new and confusing. My husband and I have almost completed all of our pre-IVF tests and hope to start IVF with ICSI next month. Dr. wright has called me to explain my various test results and helped me to get my TSH on track for IVF. I had a miscarriage prior to this process and Dr. Wright and her staff have been so understanding in working with me knowing I already experienced a very difficult loss.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
Barbara Soto and the rest of the IVF New England nursing staff in Bedford NH and Waltham offices are absolutely amazing! Having recently experienced a miscarriage, this has been a very emotional process for me. The nursing staff has been unbelievable considerate while treating me. There were there as my IVF tests were delayed due to waiting for the HCG to leave my system, through many ultrasound and blood work, and through my recent sono hysteroscopy.
How was your experience with Kristen Wright?
Dr. Wright has treated my husband and myself with compassion, understanding and patience. We experienced a miscarriage prior to working with Dr. Wright and I greatly appreciate her ability and willingness to answer all my questions and concerns that go along with having experienced a prior loss. I feel she truly cares about me and my husband and wants to see us start our family. We have hit a few bumps in the road which has slowed down our IVF start based on various test results, but Dr. Wright has helped me start correct medication and move us along faster then my PCP. I appreciate her quick responses and willing to walk me through each step of the process.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kristen Wright?
Don't ever feel guilty asking too many questions. There is no such thing. Dr. Wright has been wonderful answering my many questions and it's made a world of difference in going through this process.
Describe the protocols Kristen Wright used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We have not yet begun IVF treatment. We are just about to finish our pre-IVF testing. Dr. Wright found I had high TSH level and correctly that, as well as a uterine fibroid which will be removed. After the removal we are starting IVF with Dr. Wright.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kristen Wright.
As we are just beginning the IVF process, costs of IVF with ICSI and PGS for one cycle is around $19,000. We have spent approximately (with insurance coverage) $1500 in pre-IVF testing so far.

How was your experience with Samuel Pang?
Dr. Pang is not a warm and fuzzy doctor, so if that is your style, I wouldn't recommend him. He is however, extremely intelligent and you feel like he is on the cutting edge with technology and research. He is also extremely punctual so you never feel like you are an afterthought.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pang?
Don't assume he is cold, he is just very professional.

I don't remember exactly, but most recently we went through 2 Patch protocols because I am considered a low-responder. This involved Menopure, Gonal-F, a steriod pill, and ganorelix towards the end. You also track for a month before you begin and wear an estrogen patch for awhile at the beginning.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Samuel Pang.
My first cycle I tried to donate for my sister so that was out of pocket around $20,000. The other cycles were largely covered by my insurance, but now that we are beginning egg donor we will have to pay about $15,000-$20,000.

How was your experience with Samuel Pauli?
I have two beautiful children. We had heartbreak along the way, but could not be happier now. Dr. Pauli is a huge part of our happiness. I highly recommend him and his team. He explained the steps and gave us options. Dr. Pauli was on our side from the beginning. He spent a great deal of time arguing our case to the insurance company, who wanted more control of our procedures. After our first round of IVF (which failed) he reached out to his colleagues for advice, as he was unsure of how to handle our rarely seen situation. Upon their advice, he changed the protocol - which ultimately led to success!
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pauli?
There are lots of appointments to attend. Make sure your schedule can be flexible.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pauli used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Our first IVF attempt was negative. It resulted with a condition Dr. Pauli had knew little about. (We found VERY few resources about it on the internet). He then changed the protocol. We were successful with the change!

My primary nurse would not leave the office until she had called me back if I had left a message. I was always calling to see if results were in and wasn't very patient. However, she was very patient with me and told me I could call as often as I wanted. She sent me home with very clear instructions on the medications...The clinic was great. It was a little unnerving the day of the egg retrieval to see others going in for the procedure and seeing others coming out unconscious from the sedation. So I would perhaps suggest more seclusion in the waiting area. However, the nurses were fantastic and remembered me from one procedure to the next, which really impressed me.

Describe your experience with IVF New England.
The clinic is extremely efficient and I never had doubts that something had fallen through the cracks. They were the ones that helped us navigate insurance. In fact, I only had to call my insurance once throughout my protocol, and all other problems/payments were handled directly by the clinic. It allowed us to focus on treatment rather than payment of services.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
He was very open and willing to discuss management of managing pain/anxiety and would often call to check in when there were major events/changes in the cycle
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
I saw/talked to the nurses more than I saw/talked to the doctor. The nurses are extremely well organized and I would never have to follow up on a request or question, they were always taken care of when promised. The nurses were also very open about answering any question you might have.
How was your experience with Samuel Pauli?
He clearly cares about his patients and doing his job well. He always fully explains the procedures and gave an frank assessment of the likelihood of success. I appreciate that he was never alarmist or made attempts to offer cultural/social speculations about our infertility and often offered a more optimistic assessment of our challenges than what I was personally worried about.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Pauli?
You do not actually see/talk to the doctor as often as you might like.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Samuel Pauli.
We were covered by health insurance

It [IVF New England] is a small clinic and not open on Sundays. On days that were busy blood work may take a little longer than usual...Everyone on the nursing staff was so nice. My coordinator was Wendy and she was absolutely amazing. I really liked that it was her who called each time with results, it FET more personal...One thing is even though monitoring is and most testing is done in Providence you would have to go to MA for transfers and occasionally even monitoring of it needed to be done on a Sunday.

Describe your experience with IVF New England.
It is a small clinic and not open on Sundays. On days that were busy blood work may take a little longer than usual. I liked how I only ever had two ultrasound techs, and my coordinator. One thing is even though monitoring is and most testing is done in Providence you would have to go to MA for transfers and occasionally even monitoring of it needed to be done on a Sunday.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
She is warm and actually listens to her patients. She makes a plan based on your specific needs.
Describe your experience with your nurse.
Everyone on the nursing staff was so nice. My coordinator was Wendy and she was absolutely amazing. I really liked that it was her who called each time with results, it FET more personal.
How was your experience with Kerri Luzzo?
Dr Luzzo was the second doctor I saw after 2 failed IUIs and 4 failed FETs. She diagnosed me with lean PCOS, something the first doctor missed. She is warm, compassionate, knowledgeable and realistic. She switched up my protocol and my very first cycle with her was successful.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kerri Luzzo?
Ask questions and be open with her.
Describe the protocols Kerri Luzzo used in your cycles and their degree of success.
After 2 chemical pregnancies and 2 miscarriages Dr. Luzzo suggested I go on the blood thinner lovenox. Instead of doing estradiol which I did with my first clinic, I took letrezole for 5 days. That was all I needed to do leading up to my FET. I am currently 29 weeks with twin boys after transferring 2 embryos.

There are some great doctors at New England IVF. Do your research on who you'd like to work with because it does make a difference. It is an emotional time and you'll need the support...Strength: Very well organized, the doctors and nurses are specialized in their areas. They do respect your privacy. Weakness: Hard to reach doctor directly. Had to go through the nurses and can take a couple of days before doctor contacted you back. However, this may be doctor specific.

During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
I felt I was treated like a number because anytime that I wanted to speak with Dr. DiGirolamo, I had to go in for an office visit. After failed IVFs cycles with Dr. DiGirolamo, I did a lot of research on my own and had suggested using the information I found. She was not open to it. With this same information, I worked with another doctor at New England IVF and was successful on the first try.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff.
The nurses were very organized and supportive. They showed compassion and tried to answer your questions.

How was your experience with Carla DiGirolamo?
Wished she did the following: 1. Cared more about me as a patient. 2. Shown that she cared by responding to phone calls instead of making patients wait for an office visit. 3. Listened to what patients have researched and used that information to help put it into practice.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Carla DiGirolamo?
There are other doctors at New England IVF.
Describe the protocols Carla DiGirolamo used in your cycles and their degree of success.
Three different protocols. Mainly to stimulate to obtain the most amount of eggs that can be retrieved.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Carla DiGirolamo.
Each IVF cycle was around $20K.

My big complaint with the [IVF New England] nurses was that I had a very heavy bleeding event at the beginning of my pregnancy. I assumed I had a miscarriage but didn't know what I should do. I called the nurses line and left a message and they did not call me back until many hours later. When she called she asked me if I had been to the ER and then told me to go. Amazingly, I found out in the ER that the fetus was fine. I think they should do a better job of returning urgent calls right away. I was very unhappy with that experience, since I spent half the day laying on the couch thinking I lost the baby.

The clinic is fine, it's run well and efficiently. I have no complaints.

Though he doesn't have the warmest bedside manner, he did explain everything very thoroughly gave me the opportunity to get all my questions answered.

How was your experience with Samuel Pauli?
I am very happy with Dr. Pauli and recommended him to a friend who also had success. He was the second doctor I went to. I was unsatisfied that my first doctor was recommending the same course of treatment after 3 failed fresh transfered and 2 failed frozen transfers. Dr. Pauli on the other hand recommended genetic testing of the embryos, which I believe was the key to success for us.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pauli used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I don't remember specifics of the successful cycle, except that PGS was done to genetically screen the embryos.

I felt at ease at the Bedford location [IVF New England]. The women working there were very personal and helped me feel relaxed while there....As far as I remember I could call with questions anytime and I felt very comfortable and at ease at all my appointments....The location I had my blood and ultrasound was in Bedford NH and there were always only a few other women there during the monitoring times. I think it was during a time window and I had a specific time to show up during that window so I wasn’t waiting with a room full of women who signed in to get in line.

Sitting in front of her in her office I felt that she looked at us and wanted to help us. She listened to everything we had to say and treated us with so much respect. She was also very professional and we felt that she wanted nothing more than for us to have a baby.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kristen Wright?

As far as I can remember, the cycle cost us 10,000 plus meds. Could be 11,000? It’s a blur. Our insurance doesn’t cover IVF and it was our third out of pocket cycle.

The nursing staff was great, the heart of this clinic. Given the number of patients per doctor, this place wouldn't function at all if it weren't for the nurses picking up all the logistical work and patient management.

How was your experience with Isaac Glatstein?
He seemed like a really smart guy, but was incredibly condescending, treating me and my husband like we were idiots, despite our advanced degrees in fields related to science. Mostly we felt like an inconvenience to him and our IUI was merely part of the process to get us to IVF. He screwed up one of my injectible cycles by lack of careful monitoring as well and triggered me at 14mm, which was unlikely to result in success.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Isaac Glatstein?
Avoid him.
Describe the protocols Isaac Glatstein used in your cycles and their degree of success.
My protocol looked identical to everyone else's despite my being "unexplained" and most people having real diagnoses. Despite no reason why I should fail with IUI, I only got bfns after 5 IUIs. No further diagnostics were offered, only push towards IVF.

RSC Lexington no longer exists independently. It was a busy place yet gave good individual attention. I was sorry to see that it had merged with a larger organization.
During treatment, did you feel like you were treated like a number or a human?
Dr. Isaacson was warm, kind and straightforward. He listened well and set up a plan that quickly led to my second pregnancy and live birth of a healthy child. After spending 22 cycles and two years trying to get pregnant the first time, it was a wonderful experience with both him and his team.

How was your experience with Keith Isaacson?
Dr. Keith Isaacson was exceptional from the start. He was knowledgeable, skilled, warm, and thoughtful. He established the protocols and adjusted them in an impressive way and well above my experience with previous providers. His care was superb. I have and would recommend him --- I will be forever grateful at the miracle he allowed to happen in my life.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Keith Isaacson?
Find where he works and try to be under his care. I have the utmost respect for him and his skills.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Keith Isaacson.
My cycles were largely covered by my insurance thanks to a successful appeal done by Dr. Isaacson and his team. My primary costs were for donor sperm and its storage.

How was your experience with Isaac Glatstein?
Dr Glatstein is the kindest doctor I've ever met. A little too kind. I sometimes felt like he was a little disingenuous. But bear in mind that when you're 4 cycles down with no success your relationship with your doctor might be a little different than when you started. And I was hurt that after 4 cycles he seemed to give up on us. But prior to that, during our first few cycles Dr G was a godsend and a perfect first doctor for us. Us being completely clueless about IVF, he explained everything perfectly and made sure that we understood and agreed.

The nuring staff is in "teams" so there are a few different nurses you'll interact with over the course of treatment. They are all nice and knowledgable. Never had an issue with un-returned calls from the nursing team.

How was your experience with Carla DiGirolamo?
She is very professional and knowledgable. She is nice, but a little more on the business end of the scale than the nurturing end. She takes time to answer questions and go through the details of procedures and potential outcomes. After a setback, she asked about how I was feeling emotionally before moving on to what's next.

We had to start with 3 IUI's. Tests were inconclusive, so we were unexplained infertility. I wanted to to a IVF cycle with NO birth control and he let me which I thought was great. After the failed IUI's we did IVF. IVF worked the first time, so he didn't have to come up with a new strategy.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Samuel Pauli.
My insurance covered 100% of procedures I had maybe $50 of copays & $200 for meds.

How was your experience with Samuel Pauli?
He was excellent, explained well and walked us through everything thoroughly, friendly and helpful. We had 3 medicated IUI cycles and although he thought the third may not be successful, and set us up for IVF, it took and now we have a beautiful 22 month old son. We thought he was an excellent Dr.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pauli used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We had 3 medicated IUI cycles, the first 2 with clomid didn't take well, so on the third dr. Pauli suggested switching to Femera, he thought this might produce more follicles and a better quality egg for insemination. During the cycle he wasn't seeing the size follicle he wanted, so he didn't think the insemination would work, but it did!!!

From the first time meeting with Dr. Pang, he was extremely knowledgable and took the time to answer all our questions. From then on when speaking to him or the nursing staff, I always felt as though they were very thorough and answered any concerns in a timely manner. We never doubted any aspects of our care because it felt like we were in good hands. Luckily, we were successful on our fifth cycle with IVF New England (3 medicated and 2 IUIs). They [IVF New England] required two vials of sperm for IVF even though I only had one vial of my son's donor left and told them flat out that I would not be using the second vial. They still required two...I didn't get the results I wanted but she was a good doctor. She adjusted treatments as needed and was willing to try new things. She had good availability for appointments...She took the time time to individualize treatment plans...Highest doses of follistim for estrogen priming protocol and an antagonist protocol. She did refuse to admit that I was oversuppressd by BCP on my first cycle. But was willing to forgo them on the second cycle.

Overall I had a good experience with dr pang. I saw him trying to conceive a 2nd child. I initially saw dr Anania at that practice to conceive my first. 3 fresh cycles with dr Anania. Anania left the practice. 1 fresh cycle with pang to achieve singleton pregnancy. He was very upfront that it may not work Since I had poor egg quality and was a couple years since my previous pregnancy. We also discussed the possibility of donor eggs.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pang used in your cycles and their degree of success.
I don't remember specifics but I know we used a fairly aggressive approach (i.e. Med's)

The office in providence [IVF NE] was small and personal. You get to know the staff.... The location and hours were convenient for me. They did not do the egg retrievals or fets there so I had to go to Lexington for those which is a long drive. Most of my iui were done at this office, however, I did some at the urology office because they were cheaper. I didn't like that I had to store the sperm at the urology office. It would have been more convenient to store it at the fertility clinic

How was your experience with Kerri Luzzo?
She is very friendly and personable. She was direct with expectations and explained everything thoroughly. She always answered questions clearly. I didn't meet with her as often as I would have liked. I would have preferred her doing the iuis.
What one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kerri Luzzo?
No real advice. I would recommend her
Describe the protocols Kerri Luzzo used in your cycles and their degree of success.
We started with unmedicated iui. After two failed rounds we moved to medicated iui with clomid. I chose not to do monitored cycles since I was paying out of pocket. I do t recall the specifics of the fresh ivf cycle. I opted not to test the embryos. She gave me the option of a medicated or unmedicated frozen transfer. I opted for medicated and that cycle resulted in my child. She gave me the information and allowed me to make the decisions.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments.
You were given a time but it was really first come first serve. You had to get there before they opened to get in and out quickly. Otherwise there would be a bit of a wait.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kerri Luzzo.
Iui was $450. The rest was covered by insurance. Copay for ivf meds were pricey, but that was insurance related costs.
